Making Art in Italy

Bob and Rosemary Connelly were two “fifty-somethings” when they retired, sold their home, put their stuff in storage, got a Visa and went to live in Italy.

They have been invited by the Mispillion Art League, with their brand new state-of-the-art digital audio/visual equipment to talk about their experiences at the first "Third Thursdays" talk of 2011. They will share their adventures along with photographs, watercolors and journals of the places they lived and visited, what they did and how they did it.

Don't miss this inspiring and entertaining presentation.

Refreshments will be served.

Time: 6:30 – 8-00pm

The History of Doll Making Presentation

The Mispillion Art League “Third Monday” program for this month is a presentation by area resident and artist, Zelma Nicholas who will share her knowledge of the history of doll making. Having created porcelain antique dolls from their porcelain bodies right up to the clothing they wear, Zelma is an expert in this art form. She has donated numerous dolls that you may find on display in the Milford Museum and taught classes in doll making. She is also a painter and Jewelry designer.

I'm including this doll just for an example of the types of dolls Zelma has made. This one comes from Emily Hart who sells dolls like this one on her website.

Rare Finds Auction to benefit Mispillion Art League

Some of the neighbors at the Happy Hour tonight in the Hearthstone Clubhouse were asking about this event tomorrow night that benefits the Mispillion Art League - Milford's own art league. If you haven't been to the Art League, I urge you to go on downtown and visit us. We are located at 5 N. Walnut Street, right there on the Riverwalk, across the street from the Riverfront Theatre. We offer classes for children and adults, beginners to advanced.

Here's the scoop on tomorrow night's event. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Mispillion Art League Exhibits

If you haven't been downtown in a while, we'd like to invite you to check out the Mispillion Art League. MAL moved into the renovated historic building at 5 North Walnut Street in December to an enormously positive response from the community. Currently - until Saturday in fact - you can view the stunning Delaware Watercolor Society Show that includes MAL member work. A new exhibit will be going up this weekend - "A Bounty of Art" - the Fall Member Art Show and will include works in all media, both Fine Art and Fine Craft. An opening reception will be held October 15, 5-8pm. This event is free of charge and the public is welcome. Come out and meet your artist neighbors!
